Our Approach
Nature, preserved.
Possibilities, extended.
Every plant has its own structure, texture and character.
At Mille Plateaux, we explore ways to preserve these qualities through science and careful observation, allowing botanical forms to become part of objects, spaces and new creative expressions.
Preservation is not simply about keeping something unchanged. It is about discovering what nature can become, while respecting what it already is.
The Process
A thoughtful process,
guided by each plant.
No two plants are exactly alike. Their forms and characteristics guide the way we approach preservation and creation.
Our process brings together botanical observation, preservation science and artistic consideration.
Understanding the plant
We begin by looking closely at each plant — its shape, structure, surface and natural movement. These characteristics are the starting point for everything that follows.
Retaining its character
Through a considered preservation process, we seek to retain the distinctive qualities of each botanical form.
The approach may vary according to the nature of the plant.
Finding its expression
A preserved plant may stand alone as an object or become part of a larger spatial composition.
We consider proportion, rhythm and the relationship between the botanical form and its surroundings.
Bringing nature into new contexts
Through objects, installations and collaborative projects, botanical forms create new connections between nature, space and people.
Work With Us
Different ideas.
Different possibilities.
From selecting an existing Green Object to developing a new botanical form, we offer several ways to work together.
Choose the approach that best fits your project.
Select a Green Object
Explore our existing collection of preserved botanical forms.
Discover plants through their distinctive shapes, textures and presence, and find an object that speaks to your space or idea.
Create a Space
We work with designers, architects and clients to explore how preserved botanical forms can shape the atmosphere of a space.
From individual accents to larger compositions, each proposal responds to the character and needs of its setting.
For a Moment in Time
Exhibitions, events and temporary spaces have their own rhythm and duration.
We explore botanical installations designed around the setting, purpose and timeframe of each occasion.
Explore a New Species
Have a particular plant in mind?
For species outside our existing collection, we can explore the possibility of preservation through a separate feasibility study.
Based on the results, we assess whether production is possible and discuss the appropriate next steps.
Feasibility studies are subject to a separate fee. Not every species can be successfully preserved, and production is not guaranteed.
How We Work
From conversation
to creation.
Every project begins with understanding what you are looking for.
The steps may differ depending on whether you select an existing object, commission a spatial installation or explore a new species.
- 01
Conversation
Tell us about your idea, space, preferred plants or project requirements.
- 02
Exploration
We consider suitable botanical forms, possible approaches and project conditions.
- 03
Proposal
We discuss a direction, scope and practical requirements appropriate to the project.
- 04
Creation
Once the approach is agreed, we proceed with the applicable production or installation process.
For custom species development, a separate feasibility study is required before production can be confirmed. The sequence may vary by project.
Start a Conversation
Every project begins
with a conversation.
A particular plant. A space waiting to take shape. An idea that has yet to find its form.
Whether you know exactly what you need or are just beginning to explore, we welcome the conversation.
